Dr. Alayson Phelps was born in the midwest and completed her veterinary training at Western University of Health Sciences in Southern California in 2008. She was accepted into a very competitive internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA following graduation where she completed a year long rotating internship in emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery.
In 2009, she moved to Portland, OR and accepted an associate position at VCA East Mill Plain Animal Hospital, a growing practice in Vancouver, WA. In 2010, Dr. Phelps became Medical Director of this hospital and successfully grew the practice into a thriving, 7-doctor practice before her departure in 2019 to start Brooklyn Yard Veterinary Hospital in SE Portland.
Dr. Phelps is trained through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) for acupuncture and has a special interest in behavior. She is especially interested in integrating early puppy socialization and training in a veterinary setting and how this translates to better veterinary visits for these patients. Dr. Phelps is also Fear Free certified. She enjoys the varied cases in general practice and enjoys forming long-lasting relationships with her clients and their pets.
Dr. Phelps lives with her husband (Carson), daughter (Lydia) and two rescue dogs, Dexter and Scout.
