Kate Hooper, DVM

Dr. Kate Hooper is a native of Portland, OR and loves practicing medicine here in the Pacific NW. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University in 2012, graduating with highest honors and receiving the Dr. E.E. Wedman award for most outstanding student. After graduation, Dr. Hooper completed an intensive internship in emergency medicine and critical care at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, OR. Dr. Hooper's professional interests are many, but she is particularly interested in animal behavior and training.

Outside of work at Brooklyn Yard, Dr. Hooper is the President of Portland Animal Welfare Team, a non-profit organization that provides veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness or extreme poverty. She regularly volunteers her time with PAW Team and works closely with other veterinary non-profit organizations like First Nations Vet to provide access to care to animals in need. Dr. Hooper currently serves on the board of directors for the Portland Veterinary Medical Association. She was a founding board member of the canine behavior and training non-profit Whole Dog Academy and served as board President, academic coordinator, and instructor for over a decade.

She enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with her 2 dogs (Finn and Steady). Dr. Hooper likes to travel with her partner, who is also a veterinarian.
